As of version 9, the default setting is black and white. I started to work with Stata's version 8, and here the Stata display was green characters on a black background, a setup to which some Stata addicts adhere until this very day. This can now be accomplished by pressing Ctrl+9 (German: Strg+9). Note that in earlier versions, Ctrl+8 served to open the do file editor.

However, upon pressing Ctrl+8 (on German language keyboards: Strg+8), a window will open showing some colums of the data set plus the Variables and the Properties windows. To the right, you'll find the Variables window that provides a list of the variables in the current data set, and the Properties window, which gives information about the variable that is highlighted in the Variables window and about the data file.ĭata are not shown by default.
